Central Park Psychology Group, led by Dr. Johanna Berger, is a team of psychologists who specialize in diagnosing and treating Anxiety Disorders in adults. We treat a range of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder and panic attacks, specific phobias, and social anxiety disorder. We also specialize in diagnosing and treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in adults. We treat coexisting concerns, including ADHD, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and depression.
Our approach as anxiety therapists is compassionate and solution-focused. We utilize a strength-based approach. Specifically, we will address your challenges, while focusing on improving your confidence and building on your strengths.
Do you worry excessively and feel like you cannot control your worry? Are you often irritable, restless, and tense? Do you constantly worry about being negatively evaluated by others? Are you experiencing unwanted thoughts, urges, or images that are causing you anxiety or distress? We understand how distressing this can be and would love to help.
People often don't realize that, in addition to problems that raise serious concerns, psychologists also treat problems that are mild or moderate in severity. Even if you don't reach the full criteria for an anxiety disorder, you may experience symptoms that hinder your quality of life. Maybe you've noticed that you are easily frustrated, often worried, or frequently avoiding social situations. We are available to teach you skills, including skills that can help with interpersonal difficulties, managing anxiety effectively, and addressing unhelpful thinking patterns or behaviors.
We often ask our clients, what are you avoiding? Is there an activity, such as public speaking or networking, that you avoid because of your anxiety? Maybe you feel distress just thinking about that activity. Do you have the belief that you are 'bad at public speaking' and 'horrible at networking'? Therapy can help you reach your full potential professionally by addressing unhelpful behaviors and challenging the related negative thought patterns. Let us help you face what you are avoiding. Please email info@drjohannab.com to learn more.
We are intensively trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based psychological treatment proven effective at addressing a wide range of problems, including anxiety disorders. CBT works by focusing on the relationship between your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. As your anxiety therapists, we will help you identify and change your unhelpful thinking and behavioral patterns. We will teach you tools to manage your anxiety.
When appropriate, treatment may also include components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), including mindfulness training and acceptance work. We also specialize in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), an anxiety therapy approach proven effective at treating phobias, PTSD, and OCD.
Anxiety therapy will include homework, which is regularly assigned between sessions. By practicing skills learned in session, you will reach your goals as quickly as possible.
Anxiety may affect all aspects of your life. Our holistic approach will address your anxiety, along with maladaptive sleep, exercise, and eating habits. As your anxiety therapists, we will help you learn to manage your anxiety and learn skills to improve your quality of life.
We know how debilitating anxiety can be and are here to help. We provide anxiety therapy to people located in New York, New Jersey, and California using telehealth. We also offer anxiety therapy in our NYC office on the Upper West Side.
We understand that you may still be unsure if you need therapy. Often in life, taking the first step on a new path brings feelings of uncertainty. That's understandable. We offer a free phone consultation and will gladly do our best to answer any questions and concerns about anxiety therapy. If we believe another psychologist can better assist you, we will give you a referral. We're here to help.
