About Dr. Johanna

Dr. Johanna Berger, Psychologist

DR. JOHANNA

BERGER,

Clinical Psychologist

"Being a psychologist is my calling. I am passionate about providing an enjoyable and effective therapeutic experience for children, adults, and families."

I specialize in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, adults, and families, using a compassionate, strength-based, and solution-focused approach.

I provide individual therapy using a range of evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and habit reversal training (HRT). In addition, I have specialized training and experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an effective means of helping children and adults deal with challenges in interpersonal relationships, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation. While I offer DBT-informed treatment, I no longer offer comprehensive DBT.

Using these evidence-based approaches, I treat a wide range of difficulties including anxiety disorders, elimination disorders (e.g., encopresis and enuresis),

obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), low self-esteem, and behavioral problems. Please click here for more information about what I treat.

I am a ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) through the Institute of Certified ADHD Professionals. I have specialize training and experience in helping children and adults with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

ADHD, skills deficits, anxiety, depression, ineffective study habits, or low self-esteem can all hinder your child’s academic performance. I have specialized training and experience in helping children and adults with ADHD develop organizational skills, while also addressing coexisting concerns. I will address weaknesses in executive functioning that may make it difficult to complete homework and work assignments and excel academically and professionally.

Therapy is a collaborative process. Your child and I will examine the relationships among his or her emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. To facilitate change, parents are actively involved in treatment. Parents’ commitment to learning new techniques and effective ways to support their child’s therapeutic process is often instrumental to making long-lasting change. I provide parent training, including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and parent management training (PMT). I’ll help your family learn skills that foster a more harmonious home environment. Together, parents and their child will learn to balance change and acceptance.

I received my PhD in experimental psychology from Florida Atlantic University. At Hofstra University, I completed a postdoctoral respecialization in clinical psychology.

I find nothing more rewarding than watching people meet their therapeutic goals and develop the tools to independently manage their emotional wellbeing. I cherish each person that I have worked with. This is why I look forward to helping you and your family.

Please call today and begin your journey to a more harmonious family experience.
